Mount Mitchell State Park

Planning Your Adventure

Planning a day trip seems pretty straight forward. Decide where you want to go, put the family in the car, don’t forget the kids, set the navigation and off you go. Ok, don’t forget some snacks and water. Proper clothing for the event. Maybe throw in an extra sweater. Anything I forgot? Most trips go pretty smoothly and we have taken many fun drives to very memorable places. Unfortunately you can’t always think of everything as this post photo shows. The day we made it to Mount Mitchell the peak was well into the clouds. The four signs facing each of the compass headings depict and label all the mountains you can see in all directions. The only thing we saw was white. Oh well. We’ll be back. We have had many fun excursions and we will continue to have more. Please share your trips with us.

High Hopes Cabin

Our Vacation Tips

Our cabin has pretty much anything you’ll need for a relaxing, and enjoyable stay even if you don’t want to explore the surrounding area. Fortunately, there is so much you can do and experience just by taking a short drive, or even taking a day trip with the family. The cabin and Maggie Valley is centrally located to a large variety of activities for the entire family.

Looking Glass Falls

Amazing Must See Places

Maggie Valley is centrally located with amazing sites within a two hour or less drive in almost any direction. Walking the many trails in The Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Pisgah National Forest, or just off the many stopping points along the Blue Ridge Parkway are often rewarded with an incredible mountain view or an awesome waterfall. Many trails are children and pet friendly so the entire family can truly be a part of the adventure. Cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge cater to the visiting family and Asheville, a metropolis of its own has an abundance of restaurants, shopping, and just about anything else a small city offers. Just up the road from the cabin is the Cataloochee Ski area for winter fun and the horseback riding ranch for those warmer months. This photo was taken at Looking Glass Falls.

Pisgah National Forest – Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock Falls, Moore Cove Falls, Catawba Falls (reopens spring 2024)
