One of our favorite things about High Hopes Cabin is that it never looks the same way twice. The porch, the rocking chairs, the view down toward the creek — they’re constants. What changes is everything around them.
Spring brings the forest back to life. The trees fill in slowly, the creek runs a little louder from snowmelt, and the mornings are cool enough for a blanket with your coffee but warm enough to sit outside and watch it happen.
Summer turns the whole mountainside a deep, saturated green. This is the season for long evenings — dinner on the porch as the light goes gold, then the fire pit once it finally cools off after dark. It’s also prime time for exploring: waterfalls are running full, hiking trails are dry, and Maggie Valley’s festival season is in full swing.
Fall is the one people plan entire trips around, and for good reason. The ridge lines light up in reds and oranges, usually peaking in mid-to-late October, and the porch becomes the best seat in the house for watching it happen without leaving your coffee behind. Past guests have told us they built entire days around just sitting out there.
Winter is quieter, and the cabin leans into it — indoor fireplace going, hot tub steaming against the cold air, and if you’re lucky, a light dusting of snow on the porch railing. It’s also peak season for Cataloochee Ski Area, just a few minutes down the road.
